As a young mother, following an episode of post-natal depression, Mary was advised to take up yoga and very soon recognized the benefits as she recovered and became much stronger. After developing her skills over a number of years she was invited to study and train to teach pranayama yoga and relaxation.
She subsequently spent two and a half years studying on a one-to-one basis with her teacher and mentor and, having successfully completed her training, held her first yoga class in 1983.
Seeing her students reduce their stress and anxiety, Mary developed an interest in stress and stress-related conditions and subsequently, over the next few years and further study she gained qualifications in stress management, counselling, life coaching, Emotional Freedom Technique and energy field healing. Mary is also trained in many other areas including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, The Fast Trauma and Phobia Cure and how to lift low self-esteem.
Using the extensive range of skills she acquired, Mary worked in one of the UK Priory Group of psychiatric hospitals and in the UK National Health Service in Community Mental Health for over twenty-five years. She specialized in the treatment of patients suffering the ill-effects of stress, anxiety and depression with resounding success.
She was also a successful stress management consultant, counsellor and life coach, delivering talks, seminars, workshops and courses as well as applying a wide variety of skills, therapies and techniques on a one-to-one basis and to private companies.
As a long term member and assistant co-ordinator of The Solihull Natural Health Group Mary gained a wealth of knowledge and insight into the many varied and wide-ranging Alternative and Complementary Therapies.
Since retiring in 2010 Mary has devoted her time to writing Get Your Life Back, with the aim of helping as many people as possible to overcome their stress, anxiety and depression in the same way as she has helped her patients and clients during her extensive career.
Born and brought up in a small Lancashire village, Mary now lives in Solihull in the West Midlands with her husband.
